Police have recaptured an inmate who escaped from a northern Wisconsin prison.

State prison officials say 38-year-old Chad Alvarado escaped early Tuesday from the Flambeau Correctional Center, a minimum security facility in Sawyer County. They say he cut the screen off his window.

Tomah Police Lt. Mark Nicholson says in a statement his agency received an all-points bulletin on Alvarado later that day. Officers confirmed Alvarado checked into a Tomah hotel under a fake name, but a search turned up nothing.

The Associated Press reports that on Wednesday morning a resident reported someone was hiding in a camper in a backyard. Police responded and Alvarado emerged without incident.

Corrections officials say they’re holding a woman they suspect may have been involved in the escape in the Eau Claire County Jail on a probation violation.
