Local Area Farmers Being Recognized Today At Farmfest

Seventy-five farm families from around the state, one from each participating county, are being honored Thursday by the University of Minnesota. The families will be officially recognized in a ceremony at the annual Farmfest near Redwood Falls, Minn.

Saumer Dairy of Pine City, located at 6559 Raspberry Road in Pine City, has been named Pine County’s “2011 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota. Steve and Laura Saumer run a small family farm with both acreage and livestock.

Also winning the same designation for their respective counties are:

Dale and Linda Lueck, Aitkin County

Will and Kathy Almendinger, Anoka County

Heifer Haven Farms (Steve and Lisa Sontag), Chisago County

Laman Farms, Isanti County

Martens Farm, Inc., Kanabec County

Steve and Tammy Olson Farm, Mille Lacs County

Marvin and Beverly Schroeder, Washington County
