Altoona Fire and Rescue says it rescued two 28-year-old male kayakers in Lake Altoona Sunday night.

Police Captain Jerry Prete told WEAU that four people were kayaking near the Altoona Dam when one of the kayaks overturned and two Chippewa Falls men fell out. Thankfully they were both wearing their life jackets.

When their boat tipped, three people fishing nearby witnessed the men go in the water, and they called for help.

One of the men was self-rescued he kicked out of the turbulance and floated downstream to the shore with his life jacket on.

The other man had the wrong type of life jacket for the type of situation he was in and was holding onto the kayak to stay afloat.

At that time, the rescuers threw a line out to the boater in the water and pulled him to the shore.

Altoona Fire and Rescue says the men were not injured, but the man pulled from the water was treated for exhaustion.

The rescue efforts took 15 minutes.
