Police Arrest Suspect Who They Suspect Burned Former Home Of Gov. Dayton

Police have arrested a man suspected of setting a fire outside the former home of Governor Mark Dayton, but do not believe the arson was connected to governor, the recent government shutdown, or the current homeowner.

Police found gas cans and grill lighters at the scene, according to a complaint filed Monday. Investigators say they were able to trace the items back to 29-year-old Jeron Patterson by tracking his debit card usage and reviewing business surveillance cameras.

The Assoicated Press reports Patterson was booked into the Hennepin county jail yesterday morning,  facing first degree arson charges.

The fire happened around 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, on East Lake Harriet Boulevard. According to the criminal complaint, the current owner of the house was inside and happened to be awake late that night. He reportedly saw a bright flash of light outside his home, and when he went outside to investigate he saw three separate areas where the house was burning.
