Repairs Continue On ECE’s System

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011 at 7:39 am

East Central Energy (ECE) crews are continuing to repair areas of the distribution system that were hard-hit by the July 1 storm, replacing temporary situations with permanent repairs as needed.

Crews have also been advising members who need additional repairs at their homes, farms and businesses before ECE can make final electrical connections. Any building that sustained damage to its meter socket, or any equipment connected to the meter socket, will require repair by an electrician.

Due to the state government shutdown, ECE can assist with the required inspection of work prior to re-energizing the service. To learn more, please contact ECE at 1-800-254-7944.

Approximately 25,800 ECE members lost power for a sustained period as a result of the storm, which packed straight-line winds of 100 mph in some areas. The average outage duration was 8.5 hours, but many members were without electricity for several days. Power was restored to all members by late Thursday night, July 7.

The storm was widespread, covering much of ECE’s system. Broken and toppled trees took down hundreds of power lines and shattered over 200 poles across the system. Extensive damage occurred in the City of Cambridge, and in areas around Isanti, Pine, Chisago counties in Minnesota and Burnett and Douglas counties in Wisconsin.

ECE thanks members for their patience and understanding during this extended outage and looks forward to resuming the high level of service and reliability members have come to expect from their cooperative.

East Central Energy www.eastcentralenergy.com, celebrating 75 years in 2011, is a member-owned electric cooperative that serves more than 57,000 homes, farms and businesses in east central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. ECE provides electricity and high-speed Internet, as well as community and business development and environmental services.
