Wisconsin Wardens Ready For “Boat Landing Blitz” This Holiday Weekend

Thursday, June 30th, 2011 at 10:20 am

Wisconsin wardens will be at dozens of boat landings over the July 4th holiday weekend in hopes of insuring that boaters and anglers aren’t spreading invasive species.

Wardens, lake association members and state and county experts on aquatic invaders plan to enforce Wisconsin’s aquatic invasive species laws on nearly 90 lakes in the Department of Natural Resources’ fourth annual “boat landing blitz.”

The rules require boaters and anglers remove all aquatic plants and animals they find attached to their equipment. They also must drain all water from their boats, can’t move live fish from a water body and must purchase bait from only Wisconsin dealers.

More details about the regulations are available on the state Department of Natural Resources’ website.
