Pine City Hires Kyle Allen As Head Boys Basketball Coach

Monday, June 13th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Kyle Allen, a native of Black River Falls, WI, has been instated as the new Pine City boys basketball coach after approval by the school board Monday night. Allen replaces Eric Wicktor who spent 9 seasons as the Pine City head man.

Allen spent the last two years coaching and teaching at South Houston High School in Houston, TX. He served as the first assistant and sophomore coach to Head Coach Patrick McCoy.

Prior to his move to Texas, Allen played four years of collegiate basketball at St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Activities Director Paul Jackson said that Allen’s experience, enthusiasm and high-energy level were among the things that stood out. “[Coach Allen]‘s energy level is unbelievable and has experienced every facet of the game of basketball,” Jackson told WCMP, “from sitting on the bench to being a team captain.”

Allen will teach in the high school social studies department at PCHS filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Jim Hanson.

Wow, that was quick… and convenient. Guess he had his resume in for the Social Studies position, his coaching credentials must have been too good to go to waste, so might as well make room by relieving Wictor of his job.

As a former student of Coach Allens and an athlete at South Houston, I can honestly say I was suprised to hear Coach Allen was going back home to teach and coach. Coach Allen was one of the most respected coaches at SOHO and definently one of the best teachers. I had coach Allen for A.P. U.S. History. I learned more in that class than any other class ever. He treated us like adults and taught us information that we needed. It was my favorite class. Our basketball team won the conference championship this year for only the third time in school history. We are upset that he is leaving but we all know his wife and him want to be closer to their families.

I am Mr. Allen’s former student at South Houston High School and was quite surprised to hear he was situating himself back home. I am happy to know he is closer to his family and has found a wonderful new position to fill. He is extremely passionate about basketball and his knowledge on history is superb. Mr. Allen is a great man! His teachings helped me pass my AP U.S. History test. He is truly admirable.

Best wishes to Mr. Allen and his family!
