The cost of going to college in Minnesota might be going up next year. There is a budget proposal that is going before the Board of Trustees on Wednesday that would raise tuition in Minnesota. It would include a maximum tuition rate increase of 4% for colleges and 5% for universities.

The increases would mean that the average tuition for a full-time student in college would be $4,644 next year. That is an increase of $166 compared to this year. In universities the average tuition for a full-time student would be $6,497, which is an increase of $299.

Without a state budget in place, the tuition proposal is based on the assumption that colleges and universities will get $65 million less next year.
