3 Rescued from Sinking Boat – Alcohol is Suspected

Three people were rescued from a boat that was sinking on Big Marine Lake in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According the the Washington County Sheriff’s office, they received a 911 call a little after midnight about people yelling for help. A resident who lives on the lake, and is a Scandia Rescue member, responded to the scene with his wife in their boat. The couple rescued the owner from the boat and the other two passengers who had swam to another part of the bay.

The driver of the boat was arrested for suspicion of boating while intoxicated. The other passengers were released with no injuries being reported.

The cause of the sinking boat is under investigation.
