Duluth Lift Bridge To Lift Less Often

Saturday, May 21st, 2011 at 10:38 am

In an effort to ease traffic back-ups around the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge, officials will try raising the bridge less often this summer. The bridge currently lifts any time that a large freighter comes through. The change means that from May 27 through Labor Day, the bridge will only lift every half-hour from 7am to 9pm.

Duluth city officials tested the reduced lifts in 2010. According to those officials, the reduced lifts have reduced traffic congestion in Canal Park as well as wear and tear on the bridge itself.
