Siren LilacFest Coming May 21st
Named for the lilac flower (‘Syren’ means ‘lilac’ in Swedish), Siren will again be hosting Syren Lilacfest to honour its heritage on Friday, May 20th, and Saturday, May 21st. In 2011, however, a variety of new activities have been added to also honour its natural surroundings!
An environmental flair is being embraced by including ‘Buy Local’ Promotions and a Main Street Tent Event on both Friday and Saturday at local retailers. Saturday morning begins with the Scandinavian Bake Sale from 8 a.m. until sold out and the Swedish Buffet Breakfast “Frukost” from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Siren United Methodist Church (suggested breakfast donation is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under).
Also on Saturday, programs highlighting ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle’ are planned. Siren will be hosting their first Community-wide Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with maps available online or at local businesses; if you would like to add your own garage sale, the cost is only $10 to be on the map. A ‘Sustainable Living’ Expo at the Lodge Center Arena from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will feature both booths and presentations where you can learn how to reduce your carbon footprint through energy saving ideas and browse the locally-made section of the show to view and purchase items made in the area.
Of course, the Syren Area Garden Club will again be holding their Lilac Sales from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Siren Dental Clinic parking lot; several varieties and colors will be available. Saturday also marks the Burnett Farmers Market Opening Weekend in the Siren Senior Center parking lot from 1 to 3 p.m.
Be sure to stop out and enjoy all of the fun at this spring festival! For more information, please visit the Siren website, www.visitsiren.com, or call 715/349-8399 or 800/788-3164. This event is sponsored by the Siren Chamber of Commerce.
