Wisconsin Gov. Walker’s Reading Task Force Meets
Gov. Scott Walker’s reading task force has held its first meeting, where the group focused on a range of philosophical differences in teaching methods and training.
The Associated Press reports Walker’s “Read to Lead” task force met Monday. Its goal is to improve reading proficiency for third graders.
The group of educators, literacy specialists and legislators has suggested exploring other states’ programs for ideas. Members cited multiple factors affecting reading education such as teacher training, professional development and early intervention.
Walker says the task force should consider new accountability measures such as multiple tests and greater parental involvement. Walker also says he won’t mandate any specific approach for the task force to follow.
The group also plans to focus on specific education concerns such as early childhood education and teacher training.
