Each spring, local residents flock to the outstanding series of pops concerts presented by Pine City’s highly talented student musicians. This year continues the recent tradition of unique programming by the senior high band program, with their “Wonderful World of Disney” concert slated for Monday, May 2. This free concert will feature performances by the Concert Band, Jazz One, and small ensembles.

According to director Brad Mariska, “we really wanted to feature a program that reached out to the widest demographic this year, and what better way than feature the music of classic and contemporary animated films by Disney?” The concert will include music from classic movies like “101 Dalmations” and “Aladdin,” as well as more recent films like “Up.”

The repertoire of the concert spans from the dramatic score of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” to the jazzy sounds of “The Incredibles” to beautiful ballads like “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas.

“The students had a lot of input in selecting the music for this concert,” added Mariska, “and we are excited to perform for audiences young and old. You don’t need to have a kid in the band to come to the concert.”

Families won’t want to miss this outstanding concert, which is being presented at 7:30pm on May 2 in the Pine City Elementary Auditorium. Also mark your calendars for the Senior High Choir Pops Concert, which is just around the corner, on Thursday, May 12.
