Last Friday, April 15th Pine City Dragon Speech Team had three competitors at the Class A State Tournament; Renee Schminkey, Trevor Clune and Aaron Nisley.

Clune and Nisley (Pictured Below) earned their spot as state finalists; a prestigious accomplishment. Clune placed 7th in the category of Poetry with reciting Robinson Jeffers’ “Apology for Bad Dreams”. Nisley performed a cutting of Colum McCann’s Let the Great World Spin and was awarded 5th place in Prose.

This was junior Renee Schminkey’s first time competing at the state tournament. Renee (Pictured Below) performed her own creative piece called, “A Grandparent’s Guide to Modern Slang”.

Ninety-one Class A schools were represented at the tournament. Congratulations to the Dragons for their accomplishments.
