UMD Wins National Championship

The University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs are national champions in hockey after they beat Michigan last night at the Xcel Center 3 to 2 in overtime. Three minutes and twenty-two seconds into the overtime period Kyle Schmidt hit the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs their first championship in the programs’ 50 year history.The last time UMD played for the championship was in 1984, where they lost in four overtimes to Bowling Green. UMD forward J.T. Brown was picked as the tournament’s most outstanding player.
