A 12-year-old boy from Milaca died Thursday morning when the vehicle he was riding in rolled just west of Pease, MN.

The Mille Lacs Country Sheriff’s Office said the boy wasn’t wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle, which was being driven by his 17-year-old sister. WCCO reports that it was the girl’s birthday as well. There was also a 15-year old boy in the SUV at the time of the accident, but it is believed that he was wearing his seatbelt. Both he and the driver were sent to a hospital and released with minor injuries.

The 12-year-old, who authorities have now identified as Micah Roelofs, appeared to have been partially ejected when the 2000 GMC SUV rolled over.

The Sheriff’s office reports that there were ice and snow packed roadways at the time of the accident.
