Dayton Addresses Current Situation In State Of State Address

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 at 6:57 pm

Governor Mark Dayton stepped to the microphone today to address the Minnesotans in his first ever State of the State speech.

Dayton, a democrat, has taken control of a state that is wildly out of whack financially, and has many likely battles looming as both houses of the legislature are controlled by republicans.

Dayton minced no words during the speech, telling the legislators he believes that nothing less than the survival of the state’s government is at stake.

“I ask you, legislators; I invite you; I implore you — to join with me now, right here in our Capitol and pledge to the people of Minnesota that we will not shut down their government, our government,” Dayton said.

Dayton obviously knows that battle lines will be drawn, especially around his election promise to raise taxes on the wealthy. Dayton faces a deficit of 6.2 billion.
