Pine City Area Now Has Access To Repair Grants
Low to moderate income homeowners throughout Pine County have the ability to apply for grant funds to make repairs on their homes.
Pine County was originally awarded $531,000 from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Small Cities Development Program (SCDP).
The program initially targeted Finlayson, Willow River and Sturgeon Lake, as well as the townships of Bremen, Kettle River and Sturgeon Lake. Around $280,000 of the $531,000 was spent in those areas.
The remaining $250,000 are to be used to rehabilitate about 20 owner-occupied homes withing the county. People applying for these grants must have low to moderate incomes.
Lezlie Sauter told the Pine County that the money will be loaned to home owners for 10 years, if the home is still owned by them the money will be forgiven as a grant. The grant is said to pay up to 90% or a maximum of $23,100 toward improvements to make homes more livable, energy efficient, safe and accessible for occupants.
