Deadly Snowmobile Accident In Chisago County

Monday, January 24th, 2011 at 10:49 am

One man is dead after two snowmobiles crashed head-on in Taylors Falls Saturday (Jan. 22) afternoon.

Chisago County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to a portion of the Wild River Trail near County Road 37 and Herberg Road just after 2:45 p.m. on a report of a snowmobile crash.

Sheriff’s officials say the crash happened at the crest of a hill where the operators were unable to see oncoming traffic. It appears that one of the snowmobiles was traveling on the wrong side of the trail before the vehicles collided, landing on top of the other.

Both men were injured in the collision, but one of the men was airlifted to Regions Hospital and died early Sunday morning.

The other man was transported to Regions via ambulance and is expected to recover.

Officials don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
