North Branch Man Killed In Wisconsin Car Crash

A North Branch man was killed on Saturday, Jan. 15 in a multi-car collision on U.S. Highway 8 in Balsam Lake Township, in Wisconsin.

According to the Polk County (Wis.) Sheriff’s Department, 67-year old Allen R. Potaczek was heading west on Highway 8 around 7:50 a.m. when his 2007 Chevy pick-up crossed into the eastbound lane, striking first a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer and then a 1998 Honda Accord.

Potaczek was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he later died due to the injuries he suffered.

The Isanti-Chisago County Star reports that William O. Reece, 39, the driver of the Accord, and his two passengers, Michelle L. Moore, 37 and Christopher M. Moore, 13, all of Hudson, were treated and released from the St. Croix Regional Medical Center.

Occupants of the Trailblazer, including driver Kristine J. Kumlien, 24, of St. Peter, Minn., and Pamela J. Kumlien, 56, of Osceola, were not significantly injured.

The incident remains under investigation.
