St. Paul Man Charged With White Bear Lake Robbery
A St. Paul man was charged Tuesday (Nov. 30) in connection with an armed robbery at a bar in White Bear Lake bar on Saturday.
Tyice Alexander Phillips, 33, was charged with First Degree Aggravated Robbery and Second Degree Assault in Ramsey County District Court Tuesday afternoon.
“This was a brazen crime and an affront to our community,” Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner told KARE 11.
According to a criminal complaint, Phillips and another man entered the White Bear Lake bar just before 2 a.m. Saturday wearing masks and carrying guns. They ordered bar patrons to the floor at gunpoint and told bar employees to open a safe.
A patron attempted to wrestle a gun from one of the robbers and a second patron was shot when the gun discharged. The criminal report states the robbers fled with cash from the bar and escaped in a car with a third suspect.
A White Bear Lake police officer responding to the robbery saw a car leaving the vicinity of the bar and gave chase. The suspects’ vehicle then drove into a snow bank and the occupants fled on foot. Phillips was arrested about an hour later about one-and-a-half miles from where the car was ditched.
If convicted on both offenses, Phillips faces up to 27 years in prison and/or $49,000 in fines.
