Heckel Pleads Guilty To Vehicular Homicide

Scott Allen Heckel, 45, of Pine City has pled guilty to two counts of first degree criminal vehicular homicide for causing the deaths of Michael A. Moris, 50, and Robin S. Moris, 48, on Jan. 1 in an accident on Highway 70 east of Rock Creek.

Heckel struck a plea agreement with Pine County attorneys on Nov. 18. In the agreement, the Pine City Pioneer reports that 10 charges against Heckel were dropped, including four felony criminal vehicular homicide charges, four gross misdemeanor charges of criminal vehicular homicide and DWI, and two misdemeanor charges for driving without a Minnesota driver’s license or insurance. Heckel will now receive a sentence of 69 months in prison as part of a

The Pioneer reports further that Heckel admitted drinking to excess on the morning and afternoon of Jan. 1, then leaving a Rock Creek bar in his own vehicle even though he had a sober ride waiting for him. Heckel collided head-on with the Moris’ vehicle.

Heckel will be sentenced on Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

    Wow,69 months. I guess the county attorney’s office must think the Moris family get’s out in 5 yrs. also. They should go to the Sandstone cemetary and see there monument.
