Kanabec Hospital is announcing a fundamental commitment to protect the environment and “go green”. The Hospital will be working toward improving the energy efficiency and performance of its facilities; reducing carbon emissions; improving recycling programs; pursuing LEED certification (The LEED green building certification program encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through a suite of rating systems that recognize projects that implement strategies for better environmental and health performance.); and generally working to make the environment healthier and cleaner for all area residents. The Hospital believes that an organization-wide energy management approach will help patients enhance their overall health and wellness, and aid in preserving the environment for future generations.

“Kanabec Hospital has made a commitment to becoming a green facility,” says Hospital CEO, Randy Ulseth. “We take our role as a leader for health and wellness very seriously, and we view going green as not only as another opportunity to enhance the quality of life in our community, but also, as a fundamental responsibility of the community’s wellness leader.”

As a part of its green initiative, Kanabec Hospital has chosen to utilize RECs in its energy management policy. RECs are Renewable Energy Certificates that are available through Mora Municipal as a green energy option.  RECs can be in the form of many different green technologies; Mora Municipals offers RECs that utilize wind farms as the energy generating source.  Other ways RECs are created include solar, geothermal, hydro, biomass, as well as many other alternative energy sources.

Kanabec Hospital is committed to the health and wellness of our communities and the environment in which we live. Kanabec Hospital is located at the junction of Highways 65 and 23 in Mora. The main telephone numbers are 320-679-1212, 320-629-9993 and 800-245-5671. More information about the hospital can be found at www.kanabechospital.org.
