Duluth News Tribune Backs Cravaack

Republican Chip Cravaack continues to put the heat on Rep. Jim Oberstar, who is seeking his 19th term. Cravaack has landed a key newspaper endorsement in his bid to unseat Oberstar in northeastern Minnesota.

The Duluth News Tribune endorsed Cravaack on Sunday, Oct. 24. The paper maintains that Cravaack is what Congress needs as the country faces a difficult economic future.

The paper grants that Oberstar has had “enormous, life-changing and positive impacts” on the 8th District, but adds “Washington doesn’t need another insider.”

Cravaack is a former airline and Navy pilot making his first run for office, and his supporters have come out in droves at recent debates and rallies.

WCCO quotes Oberstar as saying he’s “disappointed but not surprised,” given what he says is the News Tribune’s conservative editorial trend since its purchase by Fargo. N.D.-based Forum Communications.
