Kids Walk To School Day is Tomorrow, Wednesday Oct. 6
On Wednesday Oct. 6 students from Pine City will join with students from all across the country in “Walk to School Day,” an initiative to remind all students about the value of walking to school.
Students and parents are asked to meet at Pine City Civic Center (Ice Rink) at 7:15 a.m. for a walk to school. Pine City Elementary School Principle Dave Arola will lead the walk, which is set to begin at 7:30.
“At Pine City Elementary School we are always looking for ways to have a positive impact on our students and our community outside the classroom,” Lisa Perlick of Isanti County Public Health said in a statement. “While walking to school was commonplace just a generation ago, traffic jams around schools are now the norm. Students are losing an opportunity for the regular physical activity that is good for their health by riding to school in cars. On Walk to School Day, students have a special opportunity to celebrate the fun of walking and biking.”
Last year over 125 people participated in the Walk to School with the Varsity Football players leading the way. WCMP will be in attendance taking pictures and collecting quotes from this public event.
