The man who was fatally shot by a Burnett County Sheriff’s Deputy on Sunday, Sept. 25 has been identified.

Sheriff’s say Michael Ritchie (43) was shooting at cars in Siren, WI with a shotgun on Sunday around midday, before being being fatally wounded after shooting at a deputy.

Ritchie was apparently firing buckshot, and hit 11 to 13 vehicles according to WCCO of Minneapolis.

Two civilians were injured in the shooting, but were treated and released from area hospitals.

The deputy remains on paid leave while the shooting is investigated. No word has been given on a motive for Ritchie’s actions, and it may take a few more weeks to know if Ritchie was under the influence at the time.
