Two Men Charged With Burglary/Arson Spree
On Tuesday, Sept. 21 two men were arrested on charges in connection with burglaries and arson that resulted in millions of dollars in damages.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office filed complaints Tuesday against Brandon Allan Lind (28) of Sandstone and Christian Amadeus Eichert (23) of Finlayson in connection with the Big Pine Lake fires and numerous burglaries from 2008.
At a press conference at the Pine County Courthouse, Pine County Sheriff Mark Mansavage said investigators got the break they needed from one of the suspects former girlfriends. Sheriff Mansavage also said two additional suspects may face charges, but wouldn’t confirm or deny that the girlfriend may be one of those suspects.
According to complaints filed by Pine County investigators, dispatchers received reports of fires on April 13th, 2008. Investigators say there were eight separate cabins and two other structures lit on fire. Investigators also used five search warrants during the course of the investigation, and found numerous items that were determined to have been stolen.
Lind faces 36 felonies, mainly for arson and burglary. Eichert faces 21 felonies.
Investigators say the April 2008 fires caused between $1.7 and $1.8 million in damages.
It is believed that Lind would often drive around searching for cabins or weekend homes that were vacant, then would return with Eichert to do the burglaries. The criminal complaint states that one witness described Eichert as “a fire setter.”
Sheriff Mansavage stressed several times that local law enforcement worked very hard to crack the case, and also said it was satisfying to know that arrests had been made.
Mansavage said the two men would be arraigned on the charges by noon on Thursday, Sept. 23.
