Thousands Raised For Deputy Dewey

Sunday, August 29th, 2010 at 4:29 pm

The family of Mahnomen County Deputy Christopher Dewey says they have counted as much as $7,000 in donations from a benefit honoring the deputy, who died Aug. 9. The family held a benefit in Cambridge on Saturday Aug. 28 to honor Deputy Dewey, who was shot while on duty in February, 2009.

Eric Dewey, the uncle of Deputy Dewey, told KSTP of Minneapolis that donations are still being counted, but the money will help defray medical expenses for Chris. Some of it will also go towards a program that helps steer kids away from crime, according to the family.

In a statement, the family wrote: “The Dewey family would like to thank everyone who contributed and donated whatever was needed to help make this benefit possible.”
