Furlough Day For Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance Call Centers

Thursday, August 5th, 2010 at 12:08 pm

Wisconsin’s call centers that handle unemployment insurance questions will be closed on Friday August 6h for a state furlough day. However, the Internet claims site and automated phone system will continue to operate. Claims can be submitted either over the Internet or by calling 800-822-5246, but there will be no operator assistance available Friday.

The state Department of Public Instruction is also taking a furlough day on Friday.

State agencies are taking 16 days of furlough over a two-year period as ordered by Gov. Jim Doyle last year to help balance the state’s budget. Of those days, eight are the same across state government and the other eight can be taken at the discretion of individual agencies.
