Farmers Markets Are Making Big Strides In Minnesota & Wisconsin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture surveyed farmers markets across the nation and the statistics show that Minnesota and Wisconsin are making big strides. Farmers markets are typically markets held at a street square or park where local farmers or growers sell locally grown produce directly to the public.  Wisconsin is ranked 8th best in the nation with 204 operational farmers markets. California is number 1 with 580 farmers markts.  Minnesota farmers markets grew by 61% this year compared to last year and is ranked number 2 in the nation in overall growth from last year, behind Missouri which grew 77% compared to last year. Overally the USDA says the number of farmers markets across the entire U.S. grew by 16% this year.

Burnett County  farmers’ markets

  • Siren (at the Senior Center Parking Lot) on Saturday afternoons from 1-3pm
  • Grantsburg (at the Village offices) on Monday afternoons from noon-2pm
  • Burnett Dairy Coop in Alpha Thursday afternoons
