Its that time of the year again, everywhere you will start to see political signs everywhere……but here is some important information to know.

Like a lot of municipalities, our community has an ordinance restricting the placement of lawn signs. Per Section 10.500.0322 of Pine City’s Municipal Development Ordinance, political signs up to 16 square feet may be placed in a yard without requiring a permit.

In a state general election year (even years), such as this year, our ordinance is overruled by Minnesota Statutes 211B.045 from 46 days before the primary until 10 days after the general election, and campaign signs may be posted in any size and number.

For 2010, this period begins June 25, until then all signage must meet the requirements of  Pine City code.

So, those huge Rudy Takala signs we see displayed in the city limits must be a violation. How about that, someone running for office that can’t follow the rules himself.
