Obey Won’t Seek Re-election

Dave_ObeyCongressman Dave Obey is not seeking re-election.  The congressman from Wisconsin’s Seventh District, which includes Burnett and Polk Counties, said Wednesday his name will not be on the ballot come November.   Obey says after four decades in Washington, he is simply tired.

Obey serves as the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.  He says he is confident he would have been re-elected.

Congressman Jim Oberstar of Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District said, ““For us in Northeastern Minnesota and the Duluth Superior Port Authority he’s been a critical partner in the investments the Corps of Engineers has needed to do the maintenance, dredging and improvements to keep the port operating.”

Sean Duffy is the GOP candidate and the Democratic Party in Wisconsin said Wednesday they expected to have a candidate soon.
