Pine Co. Looking to Expand Broadband Access
Pine County is considering ways to bring broadband internet access to all residents in the county. The issue was discussed at Tuesday’s county board meeting.
Commissioner Steve Hallan says a recent meeting with local internet and phone service providers is the start of what he hopes is the expansion high speed access throughout the county.
The concern, says Hallan, is that there are patches throughout the county with no high speed accessibility which can hurt future business and residency.
Terryl Arola sits on the technology committee who is taking the lead on the effort in the county. She and Pine County Coordinator Mark LeBrun say the next step is teaching the public why wide spread access is essential for the entire county.
Hallan told the board the technology committee will conduct a survey to see which county residents wants service who don’t currently have it. The committee will also work on a map of where coverage is needed.
Hallan and Arola will join Red Rock Radio next week during the monthly Commissioner’s Report to discuss more about the effort to expand broadband access.
