Grass Fire Rips Through 30 Acres in Grantsburg
Fire units from throughout Northwest Wisconsin raced to Grantsburg Thursday in response to a grass fire that covered about 30 acres, according to Grantsburg Fire Chief Derek Zeiler. Grantsburg’s Fire Department was joined at the scene by departments from Cushing, Webster, and Siren, as well as the Grantsburg and Frederic rangers.
The fire started around 4 p.m. and blazed into the early evening. Zeiler says he was surprised at the size of the fire.
Zeiler says the cause of the fire is not yet known. He added that one out building caught on fire, but no homes were damaged. Zeiler went on to say there were no injuries, but says people need to be extra cautious during this time of year when there is a high risk for grass fires.
