Pine Co. Board Agrees to Hire New County Engineer

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010 at 11:02 am

The Pine County board agreed in principle to hire a new county engineer.  The man expected to receive the offer is Peter Eakman, who currently works in the Public Works Department in St. Louis County.

County Coordinator Mark LeBrun, who also currently serves as Pine County’s engineer, said Eakman’s experience is one of the main reasons he is a good fit for the position.

LeBrun said Eakman has 20-years of experience in the field.  He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation out of Superior and is currently St. Louis County.

Commissioner Curt Rossow said he was impressed with Eakman’s resume:

Eakman was one of four candidates who were set to interview for the position, but the other three backed out.  Nonetheless, Commission Ed Montbriand – who also serves on the personnel committee – said Eakman is the type of person who can help Pine County find extra funding for needed projects.

The board expects to formally offer Eakman the position Tuesday and will likely approve the hire at the next board meeting on April 20th in Sandstone.

Thought we were such a broke county? Why are they hiring new people for some departments (when they can surely go without) and not others (when they surely need more help)?

Will he be a resident of Pine County? So one of the highest paid employees won’t even be paying taxes in Pine County. Will he get a County paid vehicle like our previous County Engineer did? Really seems like a waste of money… but there sure isn’t any money to aid families & children is there??

Why do we need to have money to aid families and children??? Get a job…….like everyone else has to do Pine City MOM.
