No Endorsement, Now What?
The District 8B Republican Convention held last week in Mora did not result in an endorsement. Neither Roger Crawford of Mora or Rudy Takala of Pine City received the necessary 60-percent of the votes and it appears both will head to the primary in August.
However, neither appears to be slowing down. Crawford says he feels good about the direction of his campaign after the March 23rd convention.
Takala says even though he didn’t technically get the endorsement, he feels like he came out of the convention as the winner.
Crawford says this is not exactly true.
Takala received as high as 55-percent on one ballot and Crawford received as high as 49-percent on one of the five ballots. But the candidate from Mora says these numbers are somewhat misleading.
Crawford feels like the length of the convention, which started at 6:30 p.m. and ended at 2 a.m, may have costs him some votes.
Takala says overall he was pleased with the convention and said the inconveniences are part of the process.
Takala and Crawford will square off in the August 10th primary. The winner will challenge incumbent Tim Faust (DFL-Hinckley) in November’s election.
