Moose Lake Will Host 7 County Convention
It’s that time of year again when the Seven County Senior Federation members gather to make decisions which determine the direction of the organization. Thursday April 8th is the date and the site will be Holy Angels Catholic Church in Moose Lake. Registration opens at 9 a.m. with the meeting getting underway at precisely 9:30 a.m. and running until 2:30 p.m.
A very important first order of business will be for each county to select its Vice-President for the coming year. Each county group will also elect delegates who will make up the Delegate Assembly group, which meets monthly in Mora. Affiliated senior citizen clubs also are allowed to select two delegates to be part of the monthly Mora meetings.
The opening segment of the convention will feature a keynote address from David Nicholson, program director for the Headwaters Foundation based in the Twin Cites. David will offer his thoughts about advocacy in various situations, including inter-generational and multi-cultural collaborations.
Regular convention business will commence following the keynote and there are plenty of issues that need to be addressed by the conventioneers. The 2010 budget will be reviewed and submitted for approval, as will the by-laws, which have undergone some healthy language changes.
Officer elections will also take place in the morning segment. The offices of 1st Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary are up for election this year.
Rounding out the morning activities will be the presentation of issues and resolutions, one of the most important functions of the year. Members will discuss issues that are important to them and they will vote their choice for priority issues at the state and national level. This priority will determine the focus of the organization for the next twelve months. 2nd Vice-President Fran Levings-Baker of Markville will lead this portion of the meeting and discussion.
Lunch will be served at 12 noon and following lunch the Autumn Voices singers of Moose Lake will entertain the convention crowd. Election results and priority voting results will be announced around 2:00 p.m. Door prize and raffle drawings will take place around 2:15 p.m.
Cost to attend the event is $10.00 which includes morning refreshments and the noon luncheon. Pre-registration for the convention is required as space is limited. Members can register for the convention by calling 866-679-4700.
