Highway 95 in North Branch got a new name this weekend. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty signed a bill Friday that renames the highway Corporal Johnathan Benson Memorial Highway.  Benson was killed while serving in Iraq.  Benson, a graduate of North Branch High School, was granted a purple heart after he was wounded during a second tour of duty in 2006. He died of his injuries at age 21.

The community expects to pick up the estimated $1,000 cost for new signs.

The legislation was sponsored by Rep. Jeremy Kalin (DFL-North Branch) and Sen. Rick Olseen (DFL-Harris).  The bills passed 133-0 in the House.
