Burning Permits Suspended in Northern Wisconsin Counties
SPOONER, WI.- Department of Natural Resources officials announced today that due to dry conditions, burning permit use has been suspended in Sawyer, Washburn, Rusk, Barron, Burnett, Taylor, Polk, Oneida, Vilas, Lincoln, Langlade, Price, Forest, Florence, Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron counties.
The use of cooking and warming fires is legal, but strongly discouraged. Prior to disposal, all wood ashes should be put dead out by soaking them in water.
Firefighters urge the public to use caution when venturing into the outdoors on ATV’s or other machines that may cause sparks and start a fire. The public should also be careful with smoking materials.
Burning restrictions will stay in affect until the area receives significant rainfall.
