Pheasant Forever Youth Sporting Event
Plans are well underway for the annual East Central Spurs Chapter of Pheasants Forever youth sporting event for 2010. The Youth Shoot this season will take place at the Wings North Hunt Club northwest of Pine City, beginning at 9 AM on Saturday, April 10th.
Chapter Youth Committee Chair Ray Dreyer is leading the event this year. Dreyer and the committee are mapping out the day’s events, which include an opportunity for youngsters to shoot a round of trap, followed by a chance to hunt pheasants with a guide and a trained dog in one of the club’s hunting fields.
Lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the morning’s activities in the clubhouse.
The chapter holds the event very spring to stimulate interest in hunting as a sport among area young people.
Last year 25 youngsters from around the area took part in the club’s youth event, also held at the shooting preserve.
“We want to pass on our hunting heritage by getting young people interested in the sport,” Dreyer says of the event. “This Youth Shoot really shows them in a fun way how exciting pheasant hunting can be. Just about all of the kids will be working with a hunting dog for the first time, and, for most of them, this will also be their first pheasant.
The club requires that a participant be under16 years old. Those under 12 will be limited to the trap shooting and the meal. Parents are asked to stay and participate with their youngsters. Parents will also be asked to sign their kids up as junior members of Pheasants Forever.
Interested parents should contact Wings North at 320-629-5002 by April 3rd to reserve a spot.
