Flood Warning Issued for Pine County

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010 at 7:44 am

Pine County is under a flood warning until Tuesday afternoon.  The National Weather Service in Duluth issued a small stream flood advisory for snow melting in the Nemadji River Basin in northeastern Pine County as well as parts of southeast Carlton county and northwest Douglas county.  The warning is until 2 p.m.

According to the national weather service, the the river is expected to rise from 18.9 feet to about 20 feet by noon today.  Rapid snowmelt is causing high flow and elevated levels on small creeks and streams draining into the Nemadji River.  The weather service says to expect ponding of water on some low lying country roads and farmland along the banks of the creeks, streams and mainstreams of the Nemadji River.

Children are advised to stay away from the swollen drainages because the banks might be unstable.
