Chisago Co. Board Rejects Power Plant Development Agreement
The development agreement for the proposed power plant in Lent Township was rejected Wednesday night by the Chisago County Board of Commissioners.
The Board voted 3-2 to not enter a development agreement with LS Power for the 780 megawatt power plant.
Commissioner Mike Robinson gave one of the three votes of opposition and says the benefits simply did not outweigh the concerns.

Proponents of the power plant argued that the project would help spark job creation. LS Power estimated the project would have created hundreds of construction jobs over the two-year construction period and 25-high paid permanent positions. However, Robinson says the job creation would not take effect immediately.

Despite the board’s decision, Robinson believes this is not the last time a proposal comes forward to build a power plant in the area.

Representative Jeremy Kalin (DFL-North Branch) says he hopes LS Power continues to work with the county to figure out a way to make the project beneficial to both parties.
