Officer Charged with Misconduct, Supplying Minor with Alcohol
A Chisago County police officer has been charged for allegedly providing alcohol to a 19-year-old woman.
The Isanti County Attorney’s office charged Joseph Delmont, Jr., 46 with three counts on Thursday.
According to court documents, investigators spoke with the woman, who is now 21. She told authorities that she was having an intimate relationship with Delmont. She said the sexual encounters occurred while Delmont was on-duty working for the Lakes Area Police Department.
The relationship started in the spring of 2007, according to the woman. It was reported that the encounters occurred while she was under the influence of alcohol.
It’s alleged that Delmont would meet the woman in Lindstrom, provide, her with alcohol and let her drive away after consuming “two or three beers,” according to court records. She was reportedly 19-year-old at the time.
Delmont is charged with misconduct by a public officer, giving liquor to a minor, and obstruct legal process. If convicted, he could serve over two-years in prison.
