City Leaders Expect More Growth in 2010

Picture 983The city of Pine City, like so many others around the nation, saw growth slow last year.

According to numbers presented by the city planner Nathan Johnson at Wednesday’s city council meeting, the city averaged $4-million in construction for the past three years, but last year, the city only saw $1.9-million.

Furthermore, over the past five years the city averaged nearly 18-zoning applications, but there were just 13 in 2009.

Johnson and Pine City Mayor Jane Robbins says even though last year was down, they expect a turnaround soon.

The city did add two residential units and laundromat.

Mayor Robbins says several new businesses are take a serious look at establishing themselves in Pine City.

Johnson said while building was down, remodeling projects remained steady.

    It’s great that some have taken interest in our community. I’ll bet more would if we didn’t have welcome signs that looked like cartoons.
