Local Caucuses Kick Off Busy Political Season
The political season is underway in Minnesota. Voters packed rooms Tuesday night for the caucuses. In Pine City, both Republicans and members of the DFL party convened for their respective caucuses.
The DFL party elected Margaret Anderson Kelliher in the governor’s straw poll. Keliher received 18 votes, 13 more than any other candidate.
Thom Peterson served as the Convener for the DFL caucus, and he said even though there wasn’t the turnout like in 2008, there is still a lot of enthusiasm and participation.

The Republican Caucus had a larger turnout in Pine City. Republican voters picked Tom Emmer over Marty Seifert in the straw poll, 58-47. No other candidate received more than one vote.
Mike Monte worked as the Republican Convener and said Tuesday’s caucus was all about the voters.
