Former Sheriff Charged for Shoplifting
Former Kanabec County Sheriff Von Thompson is in more hot water after he was stopped allegedly trying to steal sausages from a grocery story in Mora.
According to the Kanabec County Times, charges were filed Monday that accuse Thompson of putting a package of sausages in his pocket. The Times reports Thompson told police he was on the phone and forgot to pay.
He is charged with a petty misdemeanor.

Thompson is already charged with four felony counts of exploiting over $172,000 from a 91-year-old Mora man between October of 2007 and May of 2008. The criminal complaint states Thompson told the elderly man that he needed the money to buy a plane which he later intended to sell.
If convicted, he could face 80 years in prison. Thompson served as sheriff for 18 years, until 1999.

That is so sad, not sure what has become of the former sheriff of Mora. Way back when he usta be a good guy, or so i thought. Guess you really never know people.

This guy’s story just keeps getting more interesting!! First he is stealing from old people, and then he runs a pyramid scam / Travel parties, to shop lifting. Lock this guy up and throw away the keys, we don’t need anyone like this influencing our younger generation. But I do feel sorry for his family and all that he is probably dragging them through.
