Pine Co. Master Gardeners Honored
Thirty-three University of Minnesota Extension Pine County Master Gardeners were honored at their Annual Awards and Recognition Night on January 12th at the Pine County Courthouse in Pine City.
In 2009, 30 Pine County Master Gardeners completed 1511 volunteer and 315 educational hours. Some of their main efforts included the Pine County Horticulture Day, educational help with the Pine City Community Garden, spring and summer gardening classes, “Grow a Row” County Fair booth, Fur Post Honeybee Seminar and answering gardening questions.
Paul Johnson, Pine City received his first year certification after completing 79 volunteer hours and the 48 hour online core course. Dave Haugen, Pine City was awarded his ten year pin after completing 167 volunteer and 21 educational hours.
Three master gardeners who are retiring were recognized. They were Alyce Lere. Pine City with Emeritus status after completing 538 hours in 13 years; Les Brogren for 480 hours in 14 years and Kristie Henning, Grantsburg, Wisconsin for her 830 hours in 15 years of volunteer master gardener service.
