*Update* Man Saved by Dog Passes Away
The man whose life was saved by a German shorthair named Effie has passed away.
William Lepsch, 94, died Wednesday morning.
Pine County Chief Deputy Steve Ovick tells Red Rock Radio his death was not the direct result, but was compounded by, injuries suffered Monday when he was frozen to the ground.
Pine County Investigator Brett Grinde took his dog, Effie, for a walk in Pine City around 4 p.m on Monday. Effie began pulling harder with her nose to the ground, so Grinde decided to let her loose. Effie ran down the road and turned into a driveway. When Grinde caught up to her, he found Effie standing above Lepsch who was frozen to the ground.
Grinde said in the email, initially he thought Lepsch was dead, but was able to keep his airwaves open and call 9-1-1.
Lepsch was taken to the North Memorial Medical Center with broken ribs, but later passed away.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, son Bill (Diane), daughters Betty (Daniel) Posner and Mimi (Buck).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 16th at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Pine City.

This story has made it to KARE 11, Star Tribune.com, Sandstone paper and even the Today Show website, MSNBC… But Red Rock had it first. Good Work. Great Story.

Even though this story ended sadly, Effie & Brett still deserve much praise. In the end, this man was hopefully brought some comfort and was able to die peacefully. I know if this were my loved one, I would feel comfort in that.
