LONG OVERDUE
Thomas McArdle has returned a school library book he checked out 73 years ago. McArdle was a sixth-grader at Chestnut Street Elementary School in Scottdale, outside of Pittsburgh. McArdle now lives in Greenbelt, Md. He says he recently came across the long forgotten book, which is still in good condition. School district officials say they’re waving seven decades of late fees as a gesture of good will.

Exterminators called in to deal with a mice infestation at a London police station found a nest on one officer’s messy desk. Exterminators found that a family of mice had set up home in a pile of paperwork on one police worker’s messy desk. “That’s when one guy found a mouse nest in his paperwork. It’s fair to say he was a little embarrassed.”

AVATAR SEX SCENE
When Avatar comes to DVD, you can expect a “blue” extra. A sex scene between the giant blue avatar of paraplegic US Marine Jake Sully locking hair with his love interest, Neytiri. 24-year-old Melodi Dushane was upset that her McDonalds ran our of Chicken McNuggets. So Ohio woman punched through a McDonald’s drive-through window because Chicken McNuggets weren’t available. Police were called Friday to the restaurant in Toledo.

1 MILLION FREE THROWS
David Cummings of Epson, NH. is raising money for wounded veterans by putting in some long hours at the free-throw line. He started on Veterans Day in 2009 and says he can reach his goal by Veterans Day 2011 by sinking 1,370 shots per day. On one day recently he sank 7,000 shots in ten hours. He plans to sink 1 million free throws and raise $1 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

WORDS THAT SHOULD BE BANNED
Lake Superior State University on Thursday issued their 35th annual list of words that they believe should be banned. Male acquaintances need to find another word than “bromance” for their friendships, and the combination of “chillin” and “relaxin’” into “chillaxin” was an easy pick for banishment. Also on the list “unfirended”, “transparent/transparency,” “app”, and “teachable moment.” Also Obamacare-Obamaconomics. “We say Obamanough already,” the LSSU committee said.

STRANDED WITH BEER
Patrons at the highest-altitude pub in Britain said heavy snows left them stranded at the bar for three days while awaiting rescue by snowplows. About 60 people had to spend 3 days drinking beer and playing cards after they got snowed in at the pub during a New Years Party.

BOOTED BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE
A Denmark-based dating Web site strictly for “beautiful people” said more than 5,000 members were expelled during the holidays for putting on pounds. Beautiful People.com booted it’s less beutiful members after holiday pictures were posted show the weight gains. Officials said the ousted members include 1,520 people from the United States, 832 Britons and 533 Canadians.
