National Leaders Call for Release of Bauer and other Americans
National leaders are speaking out against the announcement that Minnesota native Shane Bauer and two other Americans are going to trial in Iran for espionage charges.
Their families, including Bauer’s mother Cindy Hickey who lives in Pine City, say the three were hiking in Iraq and accidentally crossed the Iranian Border.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar said in a written statement Monday, “There is no cause for their continued detention, and nothing will be gained by prolonging it any further.”
Klobuchar added, “Iran’s leaders should demonstrate the necessary compassion and immediately release Shane, Sarah, and Josh and allow them to return home to their families.””
In an email to Red Rock Radio, Hickey said the families continue to gather information on the reports of the trial and plan on releasing a statement at the end of the week.
